Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to host an event in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday afternoon to discuss “the present historical moment and his path forward.” The event will begin at 2 p.m. Eastern Time and will be live-streamed on X and other social media platforms.
This event comes amid speculation that Kennedy might join forces with former President Donald Trump. Trump recently mentioned that he would consider offering Kennedy a position in his administration if Kennedy decided to drop out of the presidential race and endorse him. “I like him a lot. I respect him a lot. I probably would, if something like [an endorsement] would happen,” Trump told CNN.
In a video posted on X earlier this week, Kennedy revealed that instead of meeting with community leaders, he was at the state courthouse in Pennsylvania because “the Democratic Party is suing me” in an attempt to keep him off the ballot. He also mentioned that he would be in New York on Wednesday for a similar reason.
The speculation arose after Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, suggested that endorsing Trump was one of the options being considered by their campaign. Shanahan explained that the campaign was weighing two main options: either continuing the race as an independent, potentially forming a new party, or stepping aside and supporting Trump.
She acknowledged that staying in the race could risk splitting the vote, leading to a potential victory for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. On the other hand, she noted that joining forces with Trump could present a united front. Shanahan also mentioned that the RFK Jr. campaign had been in discussions with the Trump campaign and that the feedback from Trump’s team had been “very positive.”
Kennedy initially launched his campaign as a Democrat, aiming to challenge President Biden, but in October 2023, he announced his decision to run as an independent.
