A violent incident unfolded Wednesday night when an individual allegedly attempted to confront Alina Habba, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and former personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, in her Newark office.
Sources told The New York Times that the suspect first appeared outside the building carrying a baseball bat but was stopped by security.
He later returned unarmed, was allowed inside and allegedly began shouting and causing damage to the office. Authorities report that the suspect then fled the scene.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, a close friend of Habba, condemned the attack and vowed justice.
“Last night, an individual attempted to confront one of our U.S. Attorneys—my dear friend @USAttyHabba—destroyed property in her office, and then fled the scene. Thankfully, Alina is ok,” Bondi wrote on X Thursday afternoon.
“Any violence or threats of violence against any federal officer will not be tolerated. Period.”
“This is unfortunately becoming a trend as radicals continue to attack law enforcement agents around the country,” she continued. “We will find this person, and the individual will be brought to justice.”
Habba confirmed she was unharmed.
“I will not be intimidated by radical lunatics for doing my job,” she wrote on X.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed that the agency is investigating the incident, according to the New York Post.
Habba, appointed acting U.S. Attorney in March, oversees all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation in New Jersey, supervising roughly 155 prosecutors and 130 staff across Newark, Camden and Trenton, according to The Washington Examiner.
Her appointment has faced legal challenges, with a federal judge ruling she was serving unlawfully, though she remains in the position pending appeals.
The incident highlights a broader surge in threats against conservative figures and MAGA-aligned officials.
Benny Johnson, a political commentator and outspoken Trump supporter, has reported multiple harassment attempts while traveling and covering events.
Nick Sortor, a conservative journalist, was targeted by Antifa protesters in Portland during a recent public demonstration, illustrating how political violence increasingly reaches private and professional spaces.
The trend is not only inclusive to public figures.
Conservatives and Trump supporters nationwide have reported threatening messages, vandalism and direct confrontations, sparking concern among law enforcement and political observers.
The pattern has prompted federal authorities to emphasize the need for protection of government officials and private citizens involved in public discourse.
Bondi emphasized the seriousness of the attack, stating that the Department of Justice will employ every legal tool to ensure the safety of federal officials and hold violent offenders accountable.
“Our federal prosecutors, agents, and law-enforcement partners put their lives on the line every day to protect the American people,” Bondi said.
As the FBI investigation continues, Habba remains in her role, overseeing federal prosecutions and civil litigation across New Jersey while navigating ongoing legal disputes over her appointment.
The attack on her office serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by federal prosecutors and other officials tasked with enforcing the law, especially amid rising political tensions.
This episode underscores the growing wave of politically motivated threats and violent acts targeting conservatives, highlighting the need for vigilance and law enforcement intervention to protect both officials and public servants from radical actors.
