Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has begun a relationship with South Tucson Mayor Roxanna Valenzuela, reportedly overlapping with his previous relationship with progressive activist Nomiki Konst.
The development marks the latest chapter in de Blasio’s personal life following his 2023 separation from wife Chirlane McCray, per reports.
De Blasio, 64, had been dating Konst, 41, for 10 months before the relationship ended. Sources indicated to the New York Post that Konst was unaware of de Blasio’s involvement with Valenzuela, the so-called “other other woman,” until the relationship concluded.
“The way it all went down was even worse than what he f–king did,” said a source who spoke with Konst. “She was really, really happy, and then, when it happened, I was like ‘What!?’”
De Blasio and Valenzuela first met in June at an Arizona fundraising dinner. Valenzuela posted a photograph of the two with their arms around each other at the event, where both Konst and de Blasio served as speakers.
Both Konst and Valenzuela are from Arizona, with Konst from Tucson and Valenzuela from South Tucson. However, sources indicated that de Blasio and Valenzuela’s relationship began in New York City, said the Post.
Several months after the fundraiser, a Pima County official informed Konst that Valenzuela requested a meeting with her and de Blasio regarding mayor-elect Zohram Mamdani. Konst directed them to contact de Blasio directly.
Valenzuela subsequently arranged a lunch meeting with de Blasio. Sources claim she suggested Konst would attend, though this was allegedly misleading, the Post reported. The lunch meeting marked the beginning of their relationship.
De Blasio and Konst were last photographed together on Oct. 18 at a No Kings protest, where they appeared with their arms around each other. The relationship ended sometime between that date and Election Day.
Sources close to Valenzuela indicated she has been discussing the relationship with people in Tucson. A source close to her family suggested Valenzuela may not have anticipated the public attention that would follow.
“I don’t think she gets the level of what she’s doing is going to ruin people’s lives,” the source stated, according to the Post.
The relationship between de Blasio and Valenzuela has reportedly ended. Sources indicated that Valenzuela traveled to New York City last week, prompting de Blasio to cancel his trip to Puerto Rico for the annual SOMOS political retreat.
“What is happening with Bill, and now that it’s out and people close are concerned: It’s like a mental episode he’s having to be honest,” a source said.
Billy Peard, the father of Valenzuela’s two-year-old daughter, issued a statement clarifying their relationship status.
“Roxanna Valenzuela is the mother of my beautiful 2-year-old daughter in AZ,” Peard said.
“Roxanna and I share parenting responsibilities but are not married, and have never been married. Roxanna and I have always had open communication with one another and I support her both professionally and personally.”
De Blasio and McCray separated in 2023 but stated they have no plans to divorce. The couple shares two children.
McCray, who previously identified as a lesbian, reacted to news of de Blasio’s relationships with a sympathetic “awww.” Following his separation from McCray, de Blasio has been linked to several women.
He was observed in a three-hour encounter with an unidentified woman at a New York City rooftop bar in September 2023. Weeks later, he was seen with Kristy Stark, who was married at the time.
Stark’s husband, Owen Stark, told the Post he was unaware of any relationship between his wife and de Blasio. Kristy Stark later stated she and her husband were divorcing, which came as news to her husband.
De Blasio and Konst made their relationship public in February. Konst assisted de Blasio with his public image following his time in office, including addressing his hair coloring choices that had been subject to criticism.
De Blasio addressed the situation on Sunday, stating: “Nomiki and I had a lovely relationship for 10 months, I have deep respect for her and what she stands for, and I hope we can have a real friendship in the future.”
