Biden Admin Gives Plea Deal To 9/11 Terrorist… Only To See It Yanked Days Later

When the Biden administration announced a plea deal with the 9/11 terror mastermind, team Biden was quick to follow up with the ‘there’s nothing I can do’ ducking of responsibility.

Three prisoners in Gitmo being held for the roles they played in 9/11 were offered plea deals by the US government. The families of the victims were notified by form letter.

The US has reached a plea deal with alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other defendants accused of plotting the 2001 terror attacks, according to the Defense Department.

The pretrial agreement – reached after 27 months of negotiations – takes the death penalty off the table for Mohammed, Walid Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa al Hawsawi, prosecutors said in a letter, obtained by CNN, sent to the families of 9/11 victims and survivors shortly before the Department of Defense announced the news in a press release Wednesday evening. — CNN

With the Oversight Committee digging into the ‘why’, we’ll have some of the answers around this question before too long. But despite the Biden’s administration best efforts to push ahead with this, this decision was too radioactive even for the lawless left.

Whether it was a twinge of conscience making him do the right thing, whether he didn’t appreciate a Biden radical underling pushing policies that elevated terrorists above their American victims, whether the political blowback was getting too hot, or whether they knew this is an issue that could galvanize New York AGAINST the incumbent Democrats, the plea deal was blocked from going through.

The trio had reportedly agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges in exchange for a life sentence and had been expected to formally enter their pleas under the deal as soon as next week.

However, on Friday, Mr Austin relieved retired Brigadier General Susan Escallier, who oversees the Pentagon’s Guantanamo war court, of her authority to enter into pre-trial agreements in the case and took on the responsibility himself.

“Effective immediately, in the exercise of my authority, I hereby withdraw from the three pre-trial agreements…,” Mr Austin wrote in a memo.

Escallier was elevated to that role in September of last year.

When Biden’s spokes-muppet, KJP was originally asked about the plea deal, her answer made it obvious that Biden closing Gitmo during his presidency was a big part of why they were trying to strike this deal. She made it sound as if the White House had nothing to do with this decision, and that nothing could now be done to block it.

As Austin just demonstrated, that was a lie.  And not the only one we’ve been told, either.

As for the White House involement… the timeline for these negotiations falls entirely within the current administration.

When the deal was still on the table, House Oversight sent out a blistering tweet, with screenshots of a letter directed to Joe Biden attached:

Chairman Comer is investigating the Biden-Harris Administration’s role in negotiating a plea deal with three terrorists who plotted the 9/11 terrorist attacks that murdered nearly 3,000 people.

Statement from Comer:

“The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating what involvement the White House had in negotiating and/or approving the recently announced plea deal for three terrorists who plotted the devastating attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. The Committee is seeking documents and information to understand the role your Administration played in these negotiations and the ultimate decision to forgo seeking the death penalty for three individuals who are charged with, among other crimes, the murder of 2,976 people.

“In addition to questions surrounding the White House’s role in this decision, the Committee is also concerned about the complete lack of transparency regarding the deal. The specific terms of the pre-trial agreements remain undisclosed to the public or families of the victims. You are allowing these terrorists to avoid the death penalty, signaling to our enemies that the United States is reluctant to pursue full justice against those who attack our nation.”

Did the push to ‘get out of Gitmo while Biden is POTUS’ — at any cost — come from the same place of cynical incompetence that spawned the ‘get out of Afghanistan in time for the 20th anniversary of 9/11’?
