Federal authorities have arrested a prominent Virginia Democratic Party operative on charges of distributing child pornography, according to court documents filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Randon Alexander Sprinkle, who previously served as finance chairman for the Democratic Party of Virginia, faces one federal count of distributing child pornography.
He is currently being held at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Virginia, awaiting further court proceedings.
The investigation began in May 2025 when an undercover FBI agent encountered Sprinkle on the gay dating application Jack’d.
According to a nine-page FBI affidavit supporting the criminal complaint, Sprinkle was using the username “Randy” on the platform.
Court documents indicate Sprinkle allegedly requested to move their conversation to the messaging application Telegram.
After switching platforms, he reportedly stated, “mostly into young, rape, incest – you?” according to the affidavit.
Federal investigators were able to identify and locate Sprinkle through continued interactions during the investigation.
On October 16, 2025, agents from the FBI’s Richmond field office executed a federal search warrant at his Henrico County residence.
A forensic examination of Sprinkle’s computer and electronic devices uncovered two archived files containing child pornography.
One file contained a 16-second video showing an adult male sexually assaulting an infant, according to the criminal complaint.
In total, investigators extracted 68 files from the seized devices.
Some of these files had titles indicating explicit content involving minors, the affidavit states.
The affidavit suggests evidence pointing to distribution through peer-to-peer networks commonly used for exchanging illegal images and videos.
Sprinkle was taken into custody following the search and made his initial court appearance shortly thereafter.
Sprinkle held multiple positions within Virginia Democratic circles.
Beyond his role as finance chairman for the state party, he also served as treasurer for the Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats.
Financial records show he received payments from various Virginia Democratic candidates for his services.
Richmond City Council Vice President Katherine Jordan, who employed Sprinkle as her campaign treasurer in 2024, issued a statement following the arrest.
“What has been alleged is disgusting and abhorrent. I’m shocked and sickened,” Jordan said.
First District Council member Andrew Breton, who utilized Sprinkle for campaign finance and event logistics, also responded to the news.
“The allegations are shocking and disturbing. I am grateful that law enforcement is involved, and that justice is taking its course,” Breton stated.
U.S. Rep. Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District, addressed the charges through a spokesman.
The congresswoman is “shocked by these appalling accusations which should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” according to the statement.
McClellan and Sprinkle had a working relationship dating back to 2021, when he served as her regional political director during her gubernatorial campaign.
The two maintained contact on social media, with McClellan publicly thanking Sprinkle on October 13, 2024, for distributing campaign literature.
The single federal charge carries serious penalties.
If convicted of distributing child pornography, Sprinkle faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison.
The maximum potential sentence is 20 years behind bars.
