A routine home security investigation into missing cash spiraled into a criminal case after a Florida man says he discovered his wife on camera engaging in sexual acts with the family dog.
Charlotte County deputies took 38-year-old Malia Nummerdor into custody this week, charging her with sexual contact with an animal following the disturbing discovery.
The unraveling began with something far less scandalous: a household coin jar that kept losing money.
Suspecting theft, Nummerdor’s husband set up two security cameras throughout the home, a decision every resident of the house reportedly knew about in advance.
What the cameras eventually captured had nothing to do with stolen change.
Footage recorded in a bedroom allegedly showed Nummerdor in a sexual encounter with the family’s dog, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Instead of staying quiet, the husband took his findings public, posting about the alleged incident on Facebook and asserting he had both photographic and video proof, according to Gulf Coast News.
That online post ultimately drew the attention of law enforcement, prompting an official investigation into the claims.
Detectives moved quickly, and the husband cooperated fully, turning over still photos from the footage as well as full access to the laptop containing the original video files.
Nummerdor was brought in for questioning on Tuesday, where she reportedly viewed the footage alongside investigators.
She did not dispute that the video showed her with the dog, but she offered an alternative explanation, telling officers she was simply petting the animal.
Investigators were not convinced.
According to the arrest report, Nummerdor struggled to give a consistent account of her actions, and her statements shifted under questioning.
She was ultimately unable to provide investigators with a satisfactory explanation for what the recording depicted.
Beyond the criminal allegations, Nummerdor’s personal life had appeared unremarkable online.
Her Facebook page features years of family snapshots, including photos with her husband and her two sons.
Court and marriage records show the couple wed in 2023, meaning the alleged incident occurred sometime during their marriage.
Deputies arrested Nummerdor on Tuesday and transported her to the Charlotte County Jail for processing.
Booking photos released by the jail show Nummerdor smiling broadly, an image that has since circulated alongside coverage of her arrest.
Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges are expected or whether other individuals in the household may face scrutiny.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has not released a timeline for when the case will proceed to court.
It also remains unclear whether Nummerdor has hired an attorney or entered a plea in response to the charge filed against her.
