A Florida woman was arrested Tuesday after her estranged husband gave investigators home surveillance footage that he said showed her engaging in sexual activity with the family dog.
Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, denied sexual contact, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said she acknowledged being the woman in the recording and identified the animal as her pet.
The sheriff’s office announced the arrest Wednesday, saying detectives obtained sworn statements and digital evidence after learning of allegations posted on social media. Nummerdor faces criminal charges of sexual activity involving animals.
The investigation followed Facebook posts made Sept. 11 by her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by People.
A detective reviewed the posts and accompanying comments, which included his assertions that he had photographic and video evidence of the alleged conduct.
During a Sept. 14 interview, Erik Nummerdor told investigators he had installed two surveillance cameras inside the residence. He said one was placed in his bedroom to determine who had been taking money from a coin container.
According to the affidavit, he described that camera as visible, with a blinking red light, and said household members knew about it. The device recorded continuously and replaced older footage.
He told investigators he discovered footage involving his wife and the family dog, Ranger, while reviewing the recordings. He provided screenshots and allowed authorities to access a laptop containing the surveillance files.
The detective wrote that the images appeared consistent with sexual activity, according to People’s account of the affidavit. The sheriff’s office said its evidence came from surveillance equipment inside the home.
Detectives questioned Malia Nummerdor on Sept. 15 and showed her the footage. Although she confirmed her identity and recognized the dog, she rejected investigators’ characterization of what occurred.
The sheriff’s office said investigators considered her explanations inconsistent. She subsequently requested an attorney, and the interview ended, according to the agency’s statement.
Nummerdor also disputed her husband’s account of the cameras, telling investigators they had been installed without her knowledge, People reported.
She alleged that he accessed her social media accounts to publish images and videos. She also said the recordings were made in 2024 and that he had previously threatened her with them.
People reported that calls to a telephone number listed for Erik Nummerdor were not immediately returned. The sheriff’s announcement did not specify when the surveillance footage was recorded.
Sheriff Bill Prummell condemned the alleged conduct in Wednesday’s statement, saying the case had left him struggling to find words.
“No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct,” Prummell said. He said authorities would act when they learned of such allegations in Charlotte County.
Nummerdor was arrested in Port Charlotte, according to People. The sheriff’s office described the offense as a second-degree felony under Florida law.
She was being held at the Charlotte County Jail with bond set at $35,000 when the agency issued its Wednesday statement. The charge is an allegation, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
