Ilhan Omar Raid Bombshell

Minneapolis police reportedly raided an apartment linked to the son of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Tuesday night, seizing firearms and ammunition while arresting the congresswoman’s son’s roommate.

The reported search was first detailed by Minnesota-based Alpha News, which cited unnamed law enforcement sources in reporting that officers executed a search warrant at an apartment allegedly belonging to Omar’s son, Adnan.

Alpha News reporter Liz Collin reported that police recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from the residence. Authorities also arrested 22-year-old Abdulrahman Abdi, who was identified as Adnan’s roommate.

The reported connection between the apartment and Omar’s son has not been independently verified. Neither Omar nor her son has been accused of wrongdoing in connection with the police operation.

The raid reportedly came hours after Abdi had an earlier encounter with Minneapolis police.

The Minneapolis Police Department told the Daily Mail that officers stopped Abdi on Tuesday and cited him for allegedly driving without a valid license or proof of insurance.

Police reportedly released Abdi at the scene while officers began the process of impounding the vehicle. During that process, authorities allegedly discovered a firearm inside the vehicle, according to the Daily Mail.

Investigators subsequently tracked Abdi to an address on Marquette Avenue in Minneapolis, where police said he was arrested “without incident.”

Abdi was later booked into the Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge, according to jail records cited by the Daily Mail. He was reportedly released from custody Wednesday night.

The arrest came as Abdi already had an extensive history of encounters with the criminal justice system.

Court records reviewed by the Daily Mail reportedly show that Abdi has been convicted 10 times, with the majority of those offenses classified as misdemeanors.

One of the more recent cases came last year, when Abdi was convicted of speeding while operating a vehicle with a license that had previously been revoked over another offense.

Abdi also received a felony conviction in 2024 stemming from a high-speed incident in St. Paul, according to the outlet.

Police said Abdi drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee at approximately 108 mph alongside a Dodge Durango. He ultimately pleaded guilty to fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

Abdi received a sentence of one day in the Dakota County Jail in connection with the case. A sentencing order also placed him on supervised probation for two years.

His other convictions dating back to 2022 reportedly include excessive speeding, using a cellphone while driving and failing to provide proof of insurance.

The reported raid immediately attracted attention because of the apartment’s alleged connection to Omar, a prominent Minnesota Democrat who has represented the Minneapolis-based 5th Congressional District in Congress since 2019, per Trending Politics.

Still, the available reporting does not establish that Omar or her son was involved in the alleged weapons offense that resulted in Abdi’s arrest.

The precise circumstances surrounding the firearms and ammunition reportedly recovered from the apartment also remain unclear, including who owned them and whether authorities believe any additional individuals committed a crime.
