Three U.S. Secret Service officials, including the agency’s top spokesman, have been placed on administrative leave as federal authorities investigate allegations of misconduct involving personnel inside the agency.
Secret Service communications director Anthony Guglielmi and two other officials from his department were reportedly escorted from their offices Monday, according to RealClearPolitics.
All three officials had their security clearances suspended and government-issued work devices seized as investigators continue reviewing the matter.
The Secret Service has not publicly disclosed the specific allegations against the officials, but the investigation reportedly involves both the FBI and CIA.
The development comes as FBI Director Kash Patel oversees a separate investigation into the source of a media leak involving President Donald Trump’s highly sensitive departure from Turkey following the NATO summit last month.
Details of that operation revealed that Trump was secretly transported away from Air Force One using a catering vehicle amid concerns about an Iranian assassination threat.
The president reportedly left several Cabinet officials behind while traveling with only a small group of close aides, including personal secretary Natalie Harp.
Federal investigators reportedly questioned multiple Secret Service personnel after details surrounding the operation became public.
The agency has not confirmed whether the three officials placed on leave are directly connected to that investigation.
Guglielmi has served as one of the Secret Service’s most visible public officials, overseeing communications for the agency since the Biden administration.
His tenure included the fallout surrounding the July 2024 assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, which triggered intense scrutiny of the agency and ultimately resulted in then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigning, per the Daily Mail.
Before joining the Secret Service, Guglielmi served as communications chief for police departments in Chicago and Baltimore.
His reported removal from the office comes only weeks after he publicly announced that another Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance was under criminal investigation over a suspected media leak.
That investigation followed reports quoting agents who complained about last-minute travel requests involving Vance and his family.
Officials reportedly became concerned that sensitive operational information surrounding the vice president’s movements may have been improperly disclosed.
The latest controversy adds to a turbulent period for the Secret Service as Director Sean Curran attempts to strengthen security procedures and restore confidence inside the agency.
Curran, a longtime member of Trump’s protective detail, was among the agents who shielded Trump during the Butler assassination attempt before the president selected him to lead the Secret Service.
Six agents were previously disciplined over failures connected to the Butler shooting. Those suspensions were imposed in February 2025 but were not publicly revealed until months later.
Since taking control of the agency, Curran has pushed for changes involving training, equipment, coordination with local law enforcement and internal accountability.
The Secret Service has also been involved in preventing several alleged threats against Trump this year.
Agents stopped an armed suspect before he could reach the ballroom where Trump attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April.
Two months later, the Secret Service worked alongside the FBI and other agencies to disrupt an alleged drone-and-sniper attack targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House.
The investigation involving Guglielmi and the two other Secret Service officials remains ongoing, and the agency has not announced whether disciplinary action beyond administrative leave will follow.
