Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread further and is causing significant pain, according to his son Hunter Biden, who offered a new update on his father’s health.
Hunter Biden discussed the former president’s condition during an interview with the BBC on Friday, revealing that the cancer has metastasized beyond what had previously been publicly disclosed.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”
Biden, 83, announced in May that he had been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer.
Despite his condition, the former president has continued to make occasional public appearances.
In late June, Biden appeared alongside Maryland Democrats at the party’s “Fight Back and Win” gala near Baltimore.
Earlier that month, he attended the opening of the new Obama library in Chicago.
Hunter Biden said his father remains determined to stay active despite the effects of his illness.
“He’s still doing his thing,” Hunter Biden said. “He so believes in this country.”
However, Hunter acknowledged that watching his father deal with the disease has been difficult.
“It’s really sad to watch,” he said.
Hunter added that he wishes his father would be more open about the difficulties he is experiencing.
“The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good,” Hunter Biden said.
The latest comments provide a more detailed picture of Biden’s condition following the announcement of his diagnosis last year.
Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that the former president had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones.
The diagnosis came months after Biden left the White House following a turbulent end to his political career.
His performance during the 2024 presidential debate fueled widespread concerns about his age and ability to serve another four years. Biden ultimately withdrew from the presidential race, per the Daily Mail.
Since leaving office, Biden has maintained a lower public profile but has continued to appear at select political and public events.
The former president is also working on a memoir titled “Promise Me, America,” which is expected to be released after the 2026 midterm elections.
Hunter Biden, meanwhile, has taken a more visible role in recent months, including posting regularly on X and publicly defending his father’s record in office.
His latest remarks represent a sobering update on the former president’s health, indicating that Biden continues to battle an advanced cancer that is causing both significant pain and physical limitations.
