Just the News Editor-in-Chief John Solomon alleged Wednesday that two Republican senators have delayed a Department of Justice request for Senate records tied to an ongoing investigation involving former CIA Director John Brennan.
Speaking on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, Solomon claimed Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R) and Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton (R) have refused for months to provide prosecutors with transcripts of Brennan’s interviews before Senate committees.
“I’m going to go back to being a reporter for a second. I do not know this information from anything I’ve gained in government. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Republicans are obstructing the investigation into weaponization,” Solomon said.
“There are two Republicans I can name by name, Senator John Thune and Senator Tom Cotton.”
According to Solomon, the Justice Department first requested the records in late January or early February.
He said the requested materials include transcripts of Brennan’s interviews before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which prosecutors have sought as part of an ongoing investigation.
“They have refused for months, four months now,” Solomon said. “They are refusing thus far to provide to Joe diGenova, to the prosecutors in Florida, to the Miami U.S. Attorney, to the Justice Department, the transcripts of John Brennan’s interviews with the Senate Intelligence Committee.”
Solomon also questioned why the Justice Department has not sought a subpoena to compel production of the records.
“I don’t understand the Justice Department’s behavior,” he said. “Every other time in American history, go back to Iran-Contra, go back to Watergate, the Justice Department subpoenas the Congress.”
He argued that prosecutors should have already sought judicial intervention.
“There ought to be a grand jury subpoena sitting in the Senate clerk’s office,” Solomon said. “The Justice Department has been delayed by eight months by two Republicans.”
According to earlier reporting by Just the News, the Justice Department requested fully unredacted classified and unclassified transcripts, depositions, hearings and written witness responses from the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate Intelligence Committee, per Trending Politics.
The requested materials relate to Brennan’s contacts concerning the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference, documents involving the Steele dossier and allegations of coordination between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian officials.
Assistant Attorney General Patrick Davis reportedly sent letters requesting the records for use in what the department described as an ongoing law enforcement matter, with a compliance deadline of Feb. 23, 2026.
The request is connected to a federal grand jury investigation based in Fort Pierce, Florida, examining whether government officials engaged in misconduct involving intelligence and law enforcement activities during investigations related to the 2016 election.
Former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova has been identified as playing a key role in that investigation.
According to the earlier report, the House of Representatives voted to transmit similar materials to investigators, while the Senate had not provided the requested records as of mid-April.
Neither Thune nor Cotton responded to Solomon’s allegations during the interview, and the Justice Department has not publicly commented on why it has not sought a subpoena to obtain the records.
