Hunter Biden Poses Awkward, Bizarre Challenge for Donald Trump’s Sons

A civil lawsuit, an overseas address, and a cage-fight challenge to the sons of the sitting president — Hunter Biden’s post-White House life is anything but quiet.

The Washington, DC law firm Winston and Strawn LLP dragged Biden into civil court in June 2025, claiming he walked away from a contract without settling his bill with high-profile defense attorney Abbe Lowell, who steered him through federal charges involving taxes and a firearm.

Biden put a number on his cumulative legal exposure himself — telling anyone who would listen as recently as December 2025 that the full tab across his various legal battles had ballooned to somewhere around $15 million.

Nine months later, that number is still being fought over. Neither side has landed on a final figure, and a judge has been pulled into the dispute, tasked with overseeing the release of emails and internal records to determine exactly how much of that debt remains unpaid.

Attorney Barry Coburn, now representing Biden in the fee dispute, spelled out the situation plainly in papers filed Monday in DC Superior Court, where a deadline for discovery documents was set for April 9. His client, Coburn wrote, does not know what he owes — and cannot afford to find out.

“Our client is impecunious. We have not engaged a billing consultant or forensic accountant to review the bills, just as we have not engaged an e-discovery vendor. We cannot afford it,” Coburn stated in the filing.

Coburn added that Biden currently resides outside the United States and lacks the funds to pay even the lawyers now defending him against his former lawyers. Biden, his South African-born wife Melissa Cohen Biden, and their son Beau were photographed in Cape Town in both March and May of 2025 with Secret Service agents nearby. Whether South Africa constitutes a permanent home remains unclear.

The unpaid Lowell bill is not an isolated incident. Biden previously fell behind on roughly $6.5 million owed to attorney Kevin Morris, a lawyer who made his name and fortune representing the minds behind the television juggernaut “South Park.”

Morris sat before House committees in January 2024 and told lawmakers that Biden had no shortage of options for making good on the debt — including, Morris suggested, offering to “come over and wash your car for the rest of their life.”

House Republicans investigating Biden family finances uncovered evidence that close to $30 million had moved through Biden family accounts — funds tied to Hunter Biden’s overseas business activity conducted while his father served as vice president and in the years that followed.

The court filing landed on the public record just days before Biden surfaced on social media with an announcement that raised more than a few eyebrows. He revealed plans to join Andrew Callaghan — the documentary-style host behind the YouTube series Channel 5 — on a touring event through the American southwest. Callaghan, Biden said, was working to set up a cage match pitting him against Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

“He asked me to come out on the ‘Channel 5’ Carnival Tour at the end of the month,” Biden wrote in an X post. “I think he’s trying to organize a cage match, me versus Eric and Don Jr.”

Biden left no ambiguity about his willingness to participate. “I told him I’d do it — 100% in — if he can pull it off. And if he can’t, I’m still coming,” he added. Planned stops include Phoenix, San Diego, and Albuquerque. What, if anything, Biden stands to earn from the tour or any fighting exhibitions has not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, the paper trail of his financial deterioration continues to grow. Court records from March 2025 show Biden managed to sell a single abstract painting for $36,000 in the roughly fourteen months following December 2023.

His 2021 memoir “Beautiful Things” shed nearly two-thirds of its sales volume when comparing two equivalent six-month windows within the same year — falling from 3,200 copies down to 1,100.

Biden separately claimed in March 2025 filings that a $3 million Malibu rental became uninhabitable in the wake of the Palisades Fire. Photographs of the property told a different story, appearing to show the home intact while surrounding structures had been reduced to ash.

Earlier in the decade, Biden pulled in nearly $1.5 million during and shortly after his father’s successful 2020 presidential campaign. He also appeared on Callaghan’s podcast in July 2025, where he launched an expletive-laden broadside against actor George Clooney and others who had publicly broken with President Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 election.

Whether those podcast appearances came with a paycheck is not known.

The elder Biden, now represented by Creative Artists Agency, has been seeking speaking fees of up to $300,000 per engagement — though a source told the New York Post in April 2025 that bookings have been difficult to come by.

Coburn declined to comment. Lowell’s office did not respond to an inquiry.
