A 16-year-old girl who had been missing from Colerain Township, Ohio, for roughly a month was safely recovered Friday in Florida following a coordinated multistate investigation, federal authorities confirmed.
Authorities arrested a Tennessee man identified as Negron, a suspect previously linked to another alleged kidnapping, in connection with the case.
The teen was last reported missing on Feb. 16. Law enforcement traced Negron to Florida after executing a search warrant at his Tennessee residence, revealing he had already fled.
Investigators located his vehicle in Palatka, Florida, and safely found the teen in a nearby hotel room.
The FBI described the operation as a model of interagency cooperation, with field offices in Cincinnati, Nashville, and Jacksonville joining local police and the FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team.
Director Kash Patel praised the collective effort, stating that safeguarding children from dangerous offenders is a top priority.
“This case is the best of the FBI working with our great local partners: Acting quickly, using elite technology capabilities, and deploying the best tactical units to find the alleged kidnapper and very likely save a young girl’s life,” Patel said, according to Fox News.
Officials said Negron has a prior criminal record, including misdemeanors such as theft, trespassing, and marijuana possession.
Federal authorities also noted his alleged involvement in a 2024 Texas case in which he transported a 17-year-old for sexual activity.
As of the latest update, no child sexual abuse material has been identified in either incident.
Retired FBI special agent Harry Trombitas emphasized the personal stakes for investigators.
“We in law enforcement have our own families,” he said, according to WKRC. “We have our own kids. And when we see something like this happen, our immediate thought is that this could be our child.”
Local law enforcement also applauded the rescue.
Colerain Police Chief Edwin C. Cordie III expressed relief and praised the cooperation of officers, detectives, and the community.
“We are all relieved that Madison has been safely located. Colerain Police and our partners never gave up hope,” he said in a statement.
The rescue followed a prior successful operation earlier in the same week, in which the FBI coordinated with local authorities to save a 13-year-old and a seven-month-old from alleged abuse.

Federal authorities confirmed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio is reviewing potential federal charges against Negron related to transporting a minor for sexual activity.
