Bad Bunny stunned more than 50 million Instagram followers by scrubbing his entire social media presence just hours after delivering a polarizing Super Bowl halftime performance Sunday night.
The 31-year-old Puerto Rican artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, removed every post from his Instagram account in a dramatic digital purge.
He also deleted his profile picture and hit the unfollow button on every account he had been following.
Only his massive follower count remained visible on the barren profile.
The social media blackout came on the heels of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show, which generated sharp criticism from conservative voices across America.
The Latin performer’s halftime appearance drew fire from high-profile Republicans.
President Donald Trump issued a blistering statement on his Truth Social platform Sunday night.
“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World,” Trump wrote.
Bad Bunny’s elaborate Super Bowl production began with an unusual agricultural setting at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The artist turned the field into a replica sugar cane plantation while performing his hit song Tití Me Preguntó.
The stage design incorporated additional elements reflecting Puerto Rico’s ongoing challenges.
Imagery of exploding power grids appeared throughout the show, referencing the island’s persistent electrical infrastructure problems.
Puerto Rico has experienced frequent and prolonged blackouts in recent years.
The territory’s electrical system faces ongoing reliability issues that worsen during hurricane season.
Bad Bunny sparked backlash for speaking almost entirely in Spanish. He proceeded to name countries across North, South and Latin America as performers carried those nations’ flags onto the field.
Most countries were listed in Spanish before he switched to English near the end of the sequence.
During Bad Bunny’s halftime show, millions of NFL viewers turned away to watch Turning Point USA’s alternative “All-American” halftime broadcast.
Kid Rock served as the headliner for the MAGA-aligned halftime show, which also featured performances from Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett.
The program opened with a tribute to Turning Point USA’s late founder Charlie Kirk.
The host stated, “this one’s for you Charlie,” honoring Kirk, who was murdered in September.
