Authorities in Biloxi, Mississippi, have arrested a Texas resident in connection with multiple alleged product tampering incidents at two Walmart locations, where customers reportedly found razor blades and other objects hidden inside bakery items, including loaves of bread and muffins.
The incidents prompted store inspections and police alerts to protect shoppers.
The first reported case occurred on Dec. 5 at the Walmart Supercenter on CT Switzer Sr. Drive, when a customer discovered a razor blade inside a loaf of bread. Store staff and law enforcement were immediately notified.
Three days later, on Dec. 8, another customer at the nearby Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pass Road reported a similar finding.
By Dec. 14, additional complaints led employees to inspect remaining bakery products, uncovering multiple items that appeared to have been tampered with.
Two further complaints on Dec. 15 confirmed a pattern across both stores.
Walmart responded by removing the affected products and conducting comprehensive inspections.
A company spokesperson told Fox News, “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. We appreciate law enforcement for their swift action and will continue cooperating as they investigate.”
Investigators released surveillance images identifying 33-year-old Camille Benson of Texas as a person of interest.
Authorities apprehended Benson on Tuesday in the 1000 block of Division Street in Biloxi after receiving a tip regarding her location.
She faces attempted mayhem charges and is currently held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Police have not disclosed a motive, The Independent reports.
Investigators reported that the alleged tampering involved inserting sharp objects, including razor blades and, in some cases, a fishing hook, into packaged bakery goods before they reached store shelves.
Law enforcement and store personnel reviewed surveillance footage and conducted careful inventory checks to determine the scope of the incidents, identifying only the two Biloxi Walmart locations as affected.
Authorities emphasized that the tampering appeared deliberate and premeditated, noting the potential risk to unsuspecting shoppers.
Residents who purchased bakery items from these stores are urged to remain vigilant, thoroughly inspect products and report any suspicious findings immediately.
Walmart has implemented additional quality-control measures at the impacted locations and is offering full refunds for any affected products while coordinating closely with police to monitor and prevent further incidents.
