FBI Assistant Director Dan Bongino could soon be out of his position as internal tensions erupt over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, according to new reporting.
Journalist Rachel Bade reported that Bongino has clashed with senior officials inside the Trump administration over the Epstein materials, fueling speculation that his departure may be imminent.
Bade wrote on her Substack that Bongino has angered top staffers with his response to the Epstein disclosures, though it remains unclear whether he would be forced out or choose to leave on his own.
According to Bade, senior officials have complained that Bongino prioritized his standing with MAGA voters over what they viewed as the administration’s broader interests.
The conflict reportedly boiled over during a heated confrontation with Attorney General Pam Bondi over a Department of Justice and FBI memo.
That memo stated there was no Epstein client list and no evidence that Epstein was blackmailing powerful individuals.
The findings contradicted years of speculation surrounding Epstein’s death and his alleged network of elites.
ABC News reported that the memo directly pushed back on conspiracy theories that Epstein was murdered while in federal custody.
Axios later reported that Bongino was so frustrated by the dispute with Bondi that he failed to show up for work, prompting colleagues to wonder whether he had quit outright.
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, built a massive following as a conservative commentator and podcaster before entering government service, according to the Conservative Brief.
He frequently promoted the theory that Epstein was killed to protect powerful figures, a claim the DOJ and FBI memo explicitly rejected.
The memo concluded that Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges in a Manhattan jail.
Bade wrote that the relationship between Bongino and the West Wing has deteriorated sharply since then.
She reported that one source said Bongino has told others he does not expect to remain in the job much longer.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act was passed by Congress in November and signed into law by President Donald Trump.
Following the law’s passage, a federal judge ordered the unsealing of secret grand jury transcripts tied to Epstein.
Two other judges have since ordered the release of additional sealed materials connected to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted on multiple federal sex trafficking charges.
She has publicly stated that Trump was not involved in Epstein’s crimes.
Trump has repeatedly said he did nothing wrong and has dismissed accusations as politically motivated.
In September, Bongino posted a cryptic message on X that raised eyebrows across Washington.
He claimed that what he had learned inside the federal government had shocked him to his core.
Bongino wrote that the country cannot continue operating under the current system and warned of deep corruption.
He said the FBI’s leadership is committed to rooting out public corruption and political weaponization.
Bongino promised investigations would be conducted by the book and insisted the truth would ultimately come out.
