A Wisconsin mother is grieving the loss of her three children after a Thanksgiving house fire claimed their lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Jourdan Feasby says the holiday turned into a nightmare when her children, Rylee, 10, Connor, 9, and Alena, 7, never made it back home.
Feasby spent the morning with her children on Thanksgiving before driving them to their father’s apartment, where they planned to stay the night. That was the last time she saw them alive.
Flames erupted inside the residence around 10:30 p.m. Fire crews responded quickly, but investigators say it may take weeks to determine what caused the blaze that destroyed the home and ended three young lives.
Rylee and Connor were found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene. Alena was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, but doctors were unable to save her. She later died from her injuries.
The children’s father, who has not been named publicly, was also hospitalized and treated for smoke inhalation. He survived and has since been discharged, officials confirmed.
Speaking to CBS 58, Feasby described her grief as unreal and unbearable. She said she is struggling to accept the loss of all three of her children in one night, as the Daily Mail reported.
She told reporters that instead of Christmas presents, she is choosing caskets, a reality she says no parent should ever experience. Their birthdays, holidays, memories, and futures all disappeared in minutes.
She said her children were her entire world. She described them as bright, happy, and inseparable. She called them the Three Little Amigos, who always played, laughed, and stayed together.
Feasby recalled the moment she received the phone call informing her that her children were gone. She said she could not comprehend what she was hearing and needed time to process the words.
When asked about her ex, Feasby said people may question what could have been done differently, but she believes every situation feels different in real time. She added that if she had been inside, she would have saved them or died with them.
The three siblings loved making videos together, singing, and playing outside. Their mother says those recordings are now painful to watch, but also bring her peace knowing she can still hear their voices.
Emergency responders searched the apartment through the night. Officials say the investigation is ongoing. They believe the cause of the fire will not be known for several weeks.
Feasby says the only comfort she finds is knowing her children are together. She says the pain of losing her entire family leaves her feeling alone, but she hopes others remember how fragile life can be.
She encouraged parents to hold their children close, especially during the holidays. She said the smallest moments matter most because nobody knows when life will change.
