What MTG is Really up to, According to ‘The View’ Co-Host

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced her departure from Congress, effective January 5, 2026, sparking intense speculation about her political future across the media landscape.

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin weighed in on Greene’s resignation during Monday’s broadcast, offering her theory about what comes next for the lawmaker.

Hostin stated she believes Greene harbors ambitions for higher office, specifically eyeing either a Senate seat or even the presidency in 2028.

Greene’s early exit from Congress represents a strategic move to create distance between herself and anticipated Republican losses in the 2026 midterm elections, according to Hostin.

“I think that she’s going to run for Senate. It’s pretty clear that by leaving Congress now, she can distance herself from the losses that will undoubtedly happen in 2026. I think the Democrats are going to take over the House,” Hostin said.

Hostin referenced Greene’s own predictions about Democratic gains in the House as evidence supporting her theory about the congresswoman’s political calculations.

“It’s been reported that she went to Trump and asked for his backing to run for Senate and he didn’t give her his backing,” Hostin stated.

“And that’s part of this turnaround. So I just don’t believe her.”

Co-host Ana Navarro offered a contrasting perspective, saying she would give Greene the “benefit of the doubt” regarding her stated reasons for leaving Congress.

Greene’s resignation announcement included sharp criticism of both major political parties and their failure to improve conditions for American citizens.

The Georgia representative outlined multiple grievances, including the outsourcing of American jobs, excessive spending on foreign conflicts and the mounting national debt.

Relations between Greene and Trump deteriorated significantly after she refused to remove her name from a discharge petition demanding the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein’s case. Trump responded to Greene’s refusal by telling reporters on Nov. 16 that Greene is a “traitor.”

Greene directed criticism at Trump’s foreign policy decisions, questioning whether they aligned with America First principles.

She also targeted House Speaker Mike Johnson and fellow Republicans for their handling of healthcare issues during recent government shutdown negotiations.

Greene appeared on “The View” on Nov. 4, engaging in what observers described as a surprisingly cordial conversation with the program’s co-hosts.

During that appearance, she raised concerns about expiring Biden-era tax credits within the Affordable Care Act and questioned Trump’s decision to authorize missile strikes on Venezuelan narco-terrorist vessels.

The congresswoman made a public apology on CNN for her previous inflammatory political rhetoric. Greene said, “I would like to say, humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics; it’s very bad for our country.”

Resist the Mainstream has reported on sources close to Greene who said the lawmaker has begun privately signaling to her inner circle that she intends to pursue the presidency in 2028

Greene had expressed confidence that she represents “real MAGA and that the others have strayed” from President Trump’s authentic vision, according to one source.

Financial backing appears central to Greene’s strategic thinking. The congresswoman believes she has assembled the necessary fundraising infrastructure to mount a viable campaign, sources revealed.
