Trump Says MTG’s Resignation is ‘Great News’ for the US

President Donald Trump reacted swiftly to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) shocking resignation from Congress on Friday, calling it “great news for the country.”

Greene announced her departure in a four-page statement blasting the President, accusing him of being “hateful,” and comparing herself to a “battered wife.”

In her statement, Greene criticized Trump for undermining her political career despite her loyalty.

She warned that Republicans could lose control in the 2026 midterms and said she would face pressure to defend Trump against impeachment after he “hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me.”

Trump confirmed Greene never reached out before making her decision public.

“Nah, it doesn’t matter,” he said in an interview. “I think it’s great. I think she should be happy. I have no plans to speak with her, but I wish her well.”

The resignation capped months of public tension. Greene had clashed with Trump over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, foreign policy, and health care.

The president labeled her a “traitor” and “wacky” and pledged to endorse a challenger against her in her reelection bid.

Greene’s departure mirrors the path of establishment Republicans who defied Trump, yet chose to step down rather than face his opposition, according to the Daily Mail.

Greene defended her record of loyalty to Trump, arguing she disagreed on a few key issues.

“Loyalty should be a two-way street,” she said. “We should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest because our job title is literally ‘representative.’” Her last day in Congress will be Jan. 5, 2026, shortly after her federal pension vests.

Support came from fellow Republicans who saw her departure as principled.

Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) said, “There’s a lot of truth to what Marjorie had to say. I can’t blame her for leaving this institution that has betrayed the American people.”

Rep.Thomas Massie (R-KY) praised Greene, saying, “There’s more honesty expressed in these four pages than most politicians will speak in a lifetime.”

The fallout escalated last week when Greene shared text messages she sent to Trump, urging him to release the Epstein files. She wrote, “Epstein was the spider that wove the web of the deep state. Lean into it.”

She highlighted the Clinton connection and pressed Trump to act for the sake of the victims.

Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Greene “Marjorie Taylor Brown” and “Marjorie Traitor Greene.” He claimed she had turned left and suggested a primary challenger should run against her in 2026.

Greene later reported receiving a pipe bomb threat and incidents of “pizza doxxing,” which she attributed to Trump’s attacks.

Despite the threats, Greene maintained her focus on policy. She reiterated her commitment to “America First and America Only”. She criticized Trump for prioritizing political optics over helping Americans struggling with foreign wars, economic pressures, and the loss of opportunity.

The resignation and public feud mark one of the most intense breaks between Trump and a former ally. Greene’s decision highlights the growing tension within the MAGA base over loyalty, principle, and the President’s influence over Republican lawmakers.
