Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) appeared on CNN Sunday to address President Donald Trump’s recent attacks against her, revealing that being called a “traitor” by the commander-in-chief was particularly painful.
The Georgia congresswoman sat down with Dana Bash on “State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash” for her first interview since Trump announced he would withdraw support for her reelection bid in Georgia’s Republican primary.
Greene has become one of four House Republicans backing a discharge petition to release files connected to deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
Greene told Bash that Trump’s use of the word “traitor” was the most hurtful aspect of his criticism. She emphasized the danger such language poses, stating it “can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.”
The congresswoman defended her record of loyalty to Trump, noting she stood by him when few others would. She campaigned across the country for him and spent millions of her own money supporting his election efforts.
Despite the president’s attacks, Greene clarified she still supports Trump and his administration.
She expressed a desire to end what she called “toxic fighting in politics” that has divided the country and separated friends and families.
When Bash asked what caused Trump to turn against her, Greene pointed directly to the Epstein files controversy. She called the situation “shocking” and declared her unwavering support for rape victims, abused children and trafficking survivors.
Greene insisted she believes the American people deserve transparency regarding the Epstein files. She stated that wealthy and powerful individuals should not receive protection if they have committed wrongdoing.
The congresswoman also criticized Trump’s Nov. 10 meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda commander.
Greene said the meeting, which occurred on the U.S. Marine Corps’s 250th anniversary, dishonored service members who fought against al-Qaeda in the Middle East.
She characterized the meeting as hurtful to men and women who served overseas, particularly those killed, injured or living with PTSD from fighting the terrorist organization.
Notably, Greene’s appearance on CNN did not sit well with all conservatives. “Bendy the knee to the enemy,” Mike Cernovich said.
Cernovich ripped Greene is a subsequent post, saying, “You apologized to a CNN anchor who incited hate and serves the demons. She did not ask for your forgiveness. You unilaterally submitted to her authority.”
In another, Cernovich wrote, “[Greene] APOLOGIZED to CNN, unilaterally submitting herself to the demons.”
A different X user responding to Greene’s CNN interview said, “Still blows my mind that there was the most insane freakout in the world two days ago over Trump calling out Marjorie Taylor Greene for being a lunatic and the VERY NEXT DAY! – she goes onto CNN to talk about how we all need to sing Kumbaya and hold hands with violent leftists.”
Catturd penned about Greene: “This is the biggest and fastest meltdown freefall I’ve ever seen in politics in my life. Total crash and burn.”
Trump introduced a new nickname for Greene in a Saturday Truth Social post, calling her “Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown.” He justified the name by noting that “Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!”
The president accused Greene of betraying the Republican Party by turning left and performing poorly on “The View.” He labeled her a RINO, or Republican in name only, during her Nov. 4 appearance on the ABC talk show.
Following Trump’s attacks, Greene claimed on X that private security firms contacted her with safety warnings. She said threats against her were being fueled by what she described as aggressive rhetoric from the president.
