Former Vice President Mike Pence (R), who has made waves online years after ending the first Trump administration on a sour note, is hinting at a 2028 presidential run.
Pence ran for president in 2024 and was largely unsuccessful.
The former vice president had struggled to gain traction in a crowded GOP primary, but he said he had no regrets at the time.
“It’s become clear to me: This is not my time,” Pence said at a GOP Jewish Coalition dinner. “So after much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today. We always knew this would be an uphill battle, but I have no regrets.”
Despite his resounding defeat in 2024, Pence appears to be considering a run in 2028.
The former vice president hinted as such during a speech at the Jefferson Educational Institute in Erie, Pennsylvania, Trending Politics reported.
“Would you think of another campaign, in all seriousness?” one of Pence’s co-panelists asked.
“Gee, look at the time, Steve. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. I want to keep faith with these things that I know have always made the country strong and prosperous and free. And we’ll let the future take care of itself,” the former vice president replied.
Pence has largely been praiseful of the Trump administration that he served in, saying he’s “proud” of what was achieved in those four years.
However, the former vice president had a fallout with Trump after the 2020 presidential election.
At the time, Trump claimed that the election was “stolen” from him, and on Jan. 6, he called on Pence to overturn the election results.
The president had demanded that Pence not certify the election for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Pence defied Trump and said that he would follow the Constitution.
The ex-vice president has remained largely opposed to his former boss.
On Nov. 4, Pence appeared for an interview with Newsmax, where he lambasted Trump over his tariff policies.
“We’re going into a time where some in the administration are walking away from the timeless conservative principles that really defined our party from the days of Ronald Reagan… You have voices in and around this president that want America to pull back– that articulate an isolationist view… The President’s decision to impose unilateral tariffs on friend and foe alike represents a real departure on our free market and free trade tradition,” Pence said.
As Resist the Mainstream previously reported, Pence also called on the Supreme Court to overrule Trump’s tariffs, claiming they are unconstitutional.
“I don’t believe the Constitution… affords the President… the authority to unilaterally impose tariffs on friend and foe,” he said. “American businesses and American consumers pay American tariffs.”
