The Department of Homeland Security has announced a massive surge in deportation operations, marking a huge win for the Trump administration and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) world.
Throughout the 2024 campaign trail, President Donald Trump stressed the importance of mass deportations to thousands of rallygoers at every campaign event.
The president pledged that, on day one, the southern border would be closed.
As promised, Trump closed the border and is ramping up deportations across the country.
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin revealed that ICE is preparing to ramp up its deportation efforts.
The agency has been heavily criticized by leftists over its treatment of illegal immigrants, with many claiming an overuse of authority.
McCalughlin told Fox News that ICE has deported 500,000 illegal immigrants and that 175,000 Americans have applied to work at the agency.
“We can really surge our workforce to do this great work,” she said.
1.6 million individuals plan to self-deport, Trending Politics reported.
Even though over 2 million deportations will take place, McClaughlin emphasized the need for additional action.
“But we have a lot more work to do. We want to really surge those arrest numbers, especially given that one big, beautiful bill that we’ve received the funding to do it. I think we’re going to be making great progress,” she said.
McClaughlin praised the president and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for their efforts in securing these mass deportations.
“But I do have to say, I think what Secretary Noem and President Trump have been able to do is really nothing short of extraordinary,” she said.
“They’ve faced — law enforcement has faced demonizations, the injunctions from these activist judges, these sanctuary city politicians trying to prevent us time and time again,” she added. “We’re not giving an inch, and we will deliver on the mandate for the American people.”
McCalughlin’s ICE announcement comes after the agency made headlines for arresting a British journalist who criticized Israel while on a speaking tour in the U.S., the Guardian reported.
Sami Hamdi, a Muslim journalist from the U.K., rebuked the Israeli government over its military campaign against Gaza, which Hamas strongly influences.
McCalughlin announced Hamdi’s arrest on social media.
“This individual’s visa was revoked, and he is in ICE custody pending removal,” she said. “Those who support terrorism and undermine American national security will not be allowed to work or visit this country.”
Following Hamdi’s detainment, the American-Islamic Relations Council called for the British journalist’s release from ICE custody.
“Our attorneys and partners are working to address this injustice,” the council said.
Since Trump took office in January, ICE has been subjected to heavy criticism and even attacks by liberals.
As Resist the Mainstream previously reported, footage of a woman in New York City flipping off ICE agents and trying to fight them went viral.
The woman was seen shoving an ICE agent in a bulletproof vest. She also yelled at other officers.
As Democrats rebuke ICE, with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) going as far as saying that the agency operates similarly to an authoritarian regime, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued a stark warning.
Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche sent a letter to Pritzker, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D), warning them against trying to stagnate ICE operations.
