Famed podcaster Joe Rogan, the host of the prominent YouTube channel “Powerful JRE,” has blasted President Donald Trump for deploying the National Guard in America’s largest cities.
In the past couple of weeks, the president has taken strict action against illegal immigration and crime by deploying the National Guard to predominantly Blue cities.
Trump has issued such an order to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its efforts to deport illegal immigrants and also to combat a surge in crime across these cities, mostly run by Democrats.
Rogan, who endorsed Trump last year before the presidential election, doesn’t seem too on board with the president’s orders.
While speaking on a podcast last week, Rogan pointed out that deploying the military on public streets sets a “dangerous precedent.”
He also issued a scathing rebuke of ICE’s operations, saying it is “not cool” for agents to be entering Home Depot and arresting illegal immigrants.
“The storming into f*cking Home Depot and arresting people, no that’s not cool either,” he said. “The military in the street, I think, is a dangerous precedent.”
Despite his fierce criticism against such actions, Rogan did inquire as to why Democratic leaders are allowing people to riot and burn down buildings, which is something that many “Black Lives Matter” activists did during the summer of 2020.
“Why are you allowing people to just riot in the streets and burn down buildings?” Rogan asked.
Rogan pointed out that there are two sides to the coin on this issue, Newsweek reported.
“There’s a balance to be had here, and there’s a conversation to be had,” he said.
At the beginning of this month, Rogan rebuked ICE for arresting people across the country who have resided in America for decades.
The podcaster pointed out the “horrific” optics that such operations set.
“When you’re just arresting people in front of their kids, and just, normal, regular people who have been here for 20 years. That everybody who has a heart can’t get along with that. Everybody who has a heart sees that and goes, ‘That can’t be right,’” he said at the time.
Rogan’s latest comments came just days before Trump asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the National Guard to be deployed in Illinois.
Specifically, the Trump administration requested the High Court to pause an order by a federal judge in the Prairie State that prohibits the federal government from deploying the National Guard.
Arguing on behalf of the government was U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer, who told the justices that U.S. District Judge April Perry’s order is “countermanding the President’s authority as Commander in Chief, jeopardizing the lives and safety of DHS officers, and preventing the President and the Secretary of War from taking reasonable and lawful measures to protect federal personnel from the violent resistance that has persisted in the Chicago area for several months.”
