Newly released police bodycam footage has surfaced showing Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, calmly interacting with officers during a 2022 car crash in Utah.
The video, obtained by Scripps News, reveals Robinson at age 19, wearing sunglasses and a hat eerily similar to what he would later wear while fleeing after Kirk’s murder three years later.
In the nearly eight-minute video, Robinson explained to police how his silver Audi collided with a Ford sedan in St. George. “As I was coming through, he turned in, and I T-boned into the side of him,” Robinson told the officer.
Robinson, dressed in a gray shirt, black shades, and a gray hat, was driving with his brother in the passenger seat. Both walked away uninjured, along with the other driver.
The footage shows the Audi leaking oil, its hood smashed from the crash. Robinson even joked with the responding officer about having just topped off the oil before the wreck. “Welcome to real life,” the officer replied.
Robinson’s mother soon arrived at the scene, insurance paperwork in hand. No citations were issued in the incident, per the New York Post.
Three years later, Robinson, now 22, stands accused of firing the shot that killed Charlie Kirk during a packed rally at Utah Valley University on September 10.
Prosecutors say Robinson raised a hunting rifle and fired a fatal round that pierced the 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder’s neck while he addressed thousands under a pop-up tent.
The brutal public execution launched a massive manhunt. The FBI released images of a suspect in dark clothing, sunglasses, and a hat. Robinson’s resemblance to the figure was undeniable.
Authorities captured him 33 hours later. In a shocking twist, it was Robinson’s own father who turned him in to law enforcement.
Prosecutors have described Robinson as a radicalized young man steeped in leftist ideology. Investigators say his digital footprint revealed a fixation on violent rhetoric and extremist politics.
Evidence filed in court included text messages Robinson allegedly sent to his transgender partner, telling them he had been planning the assassination for “a bit over a week.”
Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and several other offenses. Under Utah law, prosecutors may pursue the death penalty.
President Trump has already voiced his support for the maximum punishment, calling Robinson’s act “an attack on America itself” and reaffirming his close friendship with Kirk.
The eerie similarities between Robinson’s appearance in the 2022 bodycam footage and his look after Kirk’s assassination are fueling public outrage, with many seeing it as a chilling prelude to the violent act that shook the nation.
Kirk’s murder has left a deep scar on conservatives nationwide, who say the assassination was encouraged by years of reckless rhetoric from the left.
