Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), who some have speculated plans a 2028 presidential run, released partial tax records Wednesday that revealed he and his wife reported more than $10.3 million in taxable income.
The financial disclosure comes five months before Democratic primary voters head to the polls as Pritzker runs for a third term as Illinois governor.
The tax documents showed the couple reported more than $1.4 million in income from gambling activities.
The governor made the tax information public from his Springfield office on Wednesday.
Pritzker is currently seeking re-election in the upcoming Democratic primary race.
The partial tax records provide insight into the financial status of one of Illinois’ wealthiest politicians.
The $10.3 million in taxable income reflects the couple’s earnings for the reporting period.
The gambling winnings comprise a significant portion of the total reported income, representing approximately 14 percent of the couple’s total taxable earnings.
The release of these tax documents occurs during a critical period in the election cycle.
The Chicago Tribune (CT) reported that primary voters will make their decision in approximately five months, a timeframe that places the tax disclosure squarely in the public eye during campaign season.
The governor has not provided additional details about the nature or source of the gambling income at this time.
“I was incredibly lucky… I like to play cards that I founded a charitable poker match that has raised millions of dollars for the holocaust museum,” Pritzker said in the response to the now-viral news.
The tax records represent a partial picture of the governor’s financial situation, as the release was described as containing only portions of the complete tax filing.
CT further noted that the couple’s reported income places them among the highest earners in Illinois and demonstrates the substantial wealth the governor possesses.
X was soon flooded with shock responses following the news. Rudy Giuliani, for example, weighed in by saying, “There are so many questions here…”
He quipped: “Why is a sitting governor traveling out of state—to Las Vegas of all places—to gamble?’
Resist the Mainstream previously reported that alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), several other prominent Democrats are being considered for the 2028 presidential nomination.
These include former Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Gavin Newsom (CA), Gov. Josh Shapiro (PA), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (MI), former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Pritzker.
Pritzker recently made headlines after suggesting that federal immigration agents involved in a Chicago arrest operation might one day face prosecution under a future Democratic administration
He declared that “the tables will turn someday,” warning that some agents could face charges “after the Trump administration for the things that they did because the statute of limitations won’t have run.”
He also accused immigration authorities of abandoning lawful conduct, saying they were “acting like a bunch of thugs and taking away people’s free speech rights.”
